Not Sure You Are Saved

The Lord knows knows if you are saved or not and He knows if you are not sure. If you are saved, He wants you to know it, and if you are not saved, He wants you to know that.

1 John 5:13: These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.

If you are not sure you are saved I would suggest a prayer like this: Lord, if I am saved, help me to know it. And if I am not saved, save me and then help me to know that. I sometimes prayed that prayer myself during my first few months as a Christian.

Some individuals seem to attempt to receive Jesus in something less than a whole-hearted fashion.

Ephesians 3:17: That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; . . .

I can*t imagine Jesus sharing space in my heart with Satan. Actually, He doesn*t want to share any space in our lives with Satan either. Some individuals seem to attempt to receive Jesus but expect Him to make no changes in them.

2 Corinthians 5:17: Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

As I was receiving Jesus, He made me understand that He was going to change me. I did not know what the changes would be, but I knew that I was unsatisfied with myself as I was. I somehow knew that I needed to be changed and would be satisfied with whatever changes He made.

If you made a half-hearted attempt to receive Jesus or if you attempted to receive Him expecting Him to leave you unchanged, you need to receive Him with your whole heart and expecting Him to change you. The one making you a new creature will decide what the new creature will be like.

The first things He changes when individuals receive Him are their hearts. But He is too big and powerful to be limited to their hearts. He will also impact their lives.

Matthew 12:35: A good man out of the good treasure of the heart bringeth forth good things: and an evil man out of the evil treasure bringeth forth evil things.

Changing our hearts is the work of God alone. After He does that, changing our minds and lives is a cooperative effort between Him and each individual. When individuals who have received Him resist the changes He wants to make in their minds and lives they will not have much assurance that they are saved. The more they cooperate with His changes in their minds and lives the more certain they will be that they are saved.

Romans 12:1-2: I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. 2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

Matthew 7:20: Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.

The more fruit of the Spirit you permit Him to produce in your life, the more you will know you are saved.
